Ass. Prof. Alexander Vassilenko Ph.D.

Alexander Vassilenko was born  in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated “Lyubomir Pipkov”  National School of Music– Sofia as a student of Anna Ilievska and “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music– Sofia in the piano class of prof. Julia Ganeva and prof. Konstantin Ganev.

 

From 1991 to 1993 he was a piano teacher in the “New Conservatoire” – Thessaloniki, and the “Piramatiko Conservatoire” – Larissa,  Greece.

Recently he is an Assistant Professor in the Piano Department of Theory, Composition and Conducting Faculty of “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music – Sofia, as well as a piano teacher in “Lyubomir Pipkov”  National School of Music – Sofia. Al. Vassilenko is also a Ph.D. of music science and arts.

His piano students from the National School of Music are Prize winners of many international piano competitions in Bulgaria and many other countries of Europe.

As a solo performer, Al. Vassilenko is a prize winner of:

-    Usti nad Labem International Piano Competition – Czech Republic – Second Prize

-    Salerno Inrnational Piano Competition – Italy – First Prize

-    Senigallia International Piano Competition – Italy – Fifth Prize

He gave a lot of piano recitals (including works of R. Schumann – 2003; Al. Skriabin – 2005; N. Metner and B. Martinu – 2007; works of Bulgarian composers – 2008; integral of  L. Pipkov’s piano works in two concerts – 2011; works of famous Russian composers – 2012; J. Brahms – 2013) and participated in many concerts as a member of various chamber music formations.

He also participated in prestigious festivals like “Festival of Contemporary Music” – Florida, USA, “New Bulgarian Music” – Sofia, “Ppianissimo” – Sofia, “Sofia Music Weeks”, “Festival of Chamber Music” – Sofia, “New Year Music Festival” – Sofia, “Festival of The Russian Music” – Bourgas, “Winter Music Evenings” – Pazardzhik, etc.

Al. Vassilenko took part in broadcasts of the Bulgarian National Television, Bulgarian National Radio, New Television, Channel 3, Eurocom, “TV 1”, “7 Days”, “Classic FM Radio” etc. Many of his recordings are in the funds of the Bulgarian National Radio.

In 2013 Al. Vassilenko issued a double CD “Lyubomir Pipkov`s Piano Cycles”, supported by the National Academy of Music.

As a piano duo with his wife Assya Dontcheva Vassilenko, as well as a solo performer, he gave a grate number of concerts in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Germany, France, Hungary, Slovak Republic, Austria, Japan, USA. They are prize winners of:

-  “Kodama” International Competition for Piano Duos – Tokyo, Japan – First Prize and Special “Kodama” Award – 1998

-   TIM International Competition – Honorary Diploma from the Final Round – Rome, Italy – 1999

In 2006 Alexander and Assya Vassilenko issued CD “A Promenade Through the European Classics” with  miniatures for piano (four hands), supported by the National Center of Music and Dance and the National Academy of Music.
