Prof. Yassen Teodossiev, Ph.D

was born in 1973 in Sofia. He graduated " L. Pipkov " National School of Music and “P. Vladigerov” National Academy of Music with a master 's degree in French horn with Prof. Vladislav Grigorov. In 1993 he became a laureate of the National Academic Competition in Plovdiv. He is also laureate of the first Academic competition for singers and instrumentalists in Sofia. In the same year he was invited to participate in the course of the famous French-horn player and teacher Hermann Baumann in Switzerland.

Since 1993 Yasen Teodossiev is principle horn of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is long term solo horn of the  Symphony Orchestra of the Summer Academy "Chigiana " in Siena , Italy, of  Sofia Symphony Orchestra and since 2003 of  Classic FM Orchestra. Yasen Teodossiev is principle horn of two more orchestras – “Genesis orchestra” and The Festival Orchestra of “March Music Days” International Festival.

Along with his orchestral practice he appears as soloist with many orchestras such as:  Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Symphony Orchestra , "Sofia Soloists" Chamber Orchestra, Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio, State Philharmonic Thessaloniki (Greece), "AGBU-Sofia" Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of State Opera Plovdiv , Varna Philharmonic, Shumen Philharmonic , Sliven Symphony Orchestra , Bankya Chamber Orchestra , Gabrovo chamber Orchestra, Academic Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of “L.Pipkov” National School of Music, Youth Orchestra of “D.Petkov” National School of Music  and Dance and others. He has an active concert and recording career with wind quintet "The soloists of the Bulgarian National Radio" which was awarded the "Crystal Lyre" ( 2010) for excellence in the performing talent . As chamber musician Yasen Teodossiev performs within a variety of ensembles in numerous concerts and festivals in Bulgaria and abroad. He has performed together  with the renowned musicians  Bozhidar Noev , Plamena Mangova,  Alexei Ogrinchuk ( solo oboe of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra ) , Pascal Muragues ( solo - clarinet of  Orchestre National de Paris), Arkady Shilkloper (world renowned alp horn player), Elmira Darvarova (long term concertmaster of Metropolitan opera – New York), Angel Stankov, Joseph Radionov, Anatoli Krastev, Philip Pavlov,  Sava Dimitrov, Vangel Tangarov, Borislav Yotzov, Rostislav Yovtchev, Rossen Idealov and many others.  He is also part  of the PILEKADONE quintet, nominated for the "Crystal Lyre" 2013.

His great respect for the Bulgarian composers and the contemporary music makes Yasen Teodossiev  a regular participant in the festival "New Bulgarian Music" and a permanent member of the New Music Ensemble , conducted by Dragomir Iosifov. He has performed numerous premieres of contemporary Bulgarian works, some of them specially composed and dedicated to Yasen Teodossiev. He has recorded many of them for the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television .

 

Since 2001 Yassen Teodossiev combines his artistic engagements with teaching as Assistant of Prof. Vladislav Grigorov at “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of  Music. In 2012, he defended a PhD in the Academy , and in 2013 became Associate professor of  french horn.

In 2016 he was he was elected head of department „Brass instruments and percussion” and in 2017 he was confirmed as professor of French horn at “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of  Music. He also teaches “History of the instrument” in the department. Yasen Teodossev has published articles in “Musical Horizons” magazine and others.

 

Yasen Teodossiev is author of the book “Vladislav Grigorov – poet of French horn” (ISBN: 978-954-737-916-9), dedicated to the 70 anniversary of the famous Bulgarian french horn player and teacher - professor Vladislav Grigorov.
